In this post, I’ll go over the pros and cons of protein bars and 5 that actually taste good.

I’ve heard some controversy over whether protein bars are actually good for you, so for starters here is a list of pros and cons for choosing protein bars:

PROS:

-convenient, filling, cheap (compared to full meal or eating out)

-makes it easier to hit daily macros

CONS:

-a lot of them have advertise as healthy when they are filled with sugar and fake junk

-most are highly processed

I’ve tried dozens of brands and flavors of protein bars, and most of them are a miss. They either taste like you’re chewing wood, or they are way too protein-y tasting. After years of searching,

Here Are 5 Best Protein Bars That Actually Taste Good (Not Like Cardboard)

  1. Aloha Bars

Not only do these taste like actual cookie dough, but they are made with 100% organic ingredients.

The main ingredients are brown rice protein, pumpkin seed protein, cacao nibs, tapioca fiber and chocolate. 5g natural, organic sugar and 14g protein. Not bad! It’s also nice that it’s made with plant-based protein instead of classic whey, just to switch things up a little.

2. Barebell Bars

These are by far my favorite protein bars, and everyone I have introduced them to has said the same. I like all flavors, but my favorite is chocolate dough. 0g sugar and 20g protein.

I will say, I have heard some controversy around these regarding how good they really are for you, but at the end of the day I’m going to opt for the good tasting one over one I had to shove down, plus it’s still a good way to reach your macros with no sugar. Can’t be unhealthier than a real candy bar!

3. Think! Bars

I have loved these since I was a kid- specifically, the creamy peanut butter.

They have an overwhelming amount of flavor options, so you are bound to find one you’d be interested in. These are also 0g sugar and 20g protein. These are also on the cheaper side.

4. Zone Perfect Bars

These taste incredible but have high amounts of sugar. If you’re not sugar conscious, it’s a great way to get extra protein in. 14g sugar, 14g protein.

My favorite is chocolate chip cookie dough. can you tell my favorite dessert is cookie dough?

5. Kirkland Brand Bars

These are the least great tasting in my opinion, but they rank incredibly high on the health rating.

I have met people who like the taste of these, personally I think they are a little bland. Although, I have had worse. 2g sugar, 21g protein. Also, a great source of fiber.

Although protein bars are good for a quick after-the-gym pick me up, make sure you’re still getting in natural protein to reach your fitness goals. Foods such as meat and dairy will help you reach your goals in a healthier way than processed protein, and make you feel better. Remember, man-made food will never be as healthy and efficient as nature made.
